Quite possibly one of the most famous college football coaches today is Jim Tressel, Head Coach of Ohio State. For those who are seriously interested in finding college football coaching jobs will in reality never make the big schools, but it might be important to look at Coach Tressel’s journey. One can see what steps he took along the way, and try to make up a similar game plan.

First and foremost, Jim Tressel is a very humble and generous man. He and his wife have worked for many charities for a long time. They go out of their way to reach out to people who are in despair. Coach Tressel has often said that he cannot believe it when so many people want his autograph. He has he head on straight.

We went to High School in Berea. He went to college at Baldwin College where he played football. He went to Akron University for his Master’s Degree and got his first job as a graduate assistant as the coach of the quarterbacks, receivers and running backs.

After graduation, Coach Tressel pursued his college football coaching jobs by going to Miami of Ohio where for two years he worked as the receiver and quarterback coach. In 1981, he spent two years in Syracuse as the quarterback for two years. 1983 brought Coach Tressel back to Ohio to work for Earle Bruce at Ohio.

In 1991 he was hired as the head coach at Youngstown State University in Northeast Ohio. His first few games were pretty dismal, but things did not stay that way. In 1991 he led YSU to the Division National Championship, and for the next four years, they were in the playoff games, only losing one game.

In 2000, Coach Tressel came back to Ohio State, this time as Head Coach, and has led the team to a bowl game every year, and one National Championship. His attitude towards the job is this: “representing Ohio State is a privilege, an advantage that allows them (the team) to enhance the futures of themselves, their families and communities through education and enlightened concern.”

If one is truly interested in finding college football coaching jobs you need to follow Coach Tressel’s approach of humility, public service, emphasis on education, and concern for one another.” Good luck in your endeavor.
